Sir John Mills had over one hundred acting credits to his name.

In 1971 he was awarded both an Oscar and a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of the retarded Michael in the film Ryan's Daughter.

He died aged 97 at his home on 23rd April 2005 after a chest infection that had lasted several weeks.
