Sir Laurens van der Post

Sir Laurens van der Post was an author, explorer, anthropologist, linguist and philosopher.

His imprisonment in a Japanese prisoner of war camp during World War II had a lasting effect on him. His book about these experiences, The Seed and the Sower (1963), was the basis for the 1983 film Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence, starring David Bowie.
